Chapter 3: The Witch



The last we left the crew of three fruit users, they had boarded an unknown pirate ship. They threw all the crew overboard but were attacked by the captain when they woke him from his slumber. Danny almost had him when he melted his hand into the sword and tried to hold it down, but the captain was far too strong and began to swing Danny around. Chelsea tried to rescue Danny when he was almost beheaded, but even she was over powered by him. Things looked bad for them, but Thomas flung cannon balls at the captain. After a cannon ball to the face, and several to his stomach, he finally went down. Please with their efforts he said he hoped to fight them again someday. He let them know he was James of the War Hammer Pirates. In fact he was the captain of the entire armada. He often rode with just a small ship of his rather than have all the armada go out together. They didn’t have much of a need for money. And now he had brought them to their destination…
“Here we are.” He said readying a lifeboat. North Kusack. The coldest of the Kusack Diamond Isles.
“You aren’t going to bring us right into the port?” Thomas asked confused.
“Nope, it’s too much of a pain to get into this port and then leave. You’ll just have to take this lifeboat.”
“Are you crazy?” Chelsea scowled. “The three of us are fruit users. If one of us falls in there is no saving them.”
“Yeah.” Danny agreed. That’s just suicidal. “We’d kinda like to live.”
“Oh really? And it wasn’t suicidal when you used that method to get over to the other islands? Or to get to my boat? I may not have the most common sense, but seriously, it’s not my problem.” James laughed. By now the lifeboat was in the water. James grabbed the three of them and threw them down into the boat atop their belongings. “Have fun.” He said smiling as he set them loose.
“YOU BASTARD!” Chelsea yelled.
“I can’t believe his douchebaggery.” Thomas groaned.
“We’ll just have to deal with it.” Danny said shaking his head. “I’ll take this oar. Thomas you…” Thomas grabbed the second oar with a big smile on his face. “Give that oar to Chelsea.”
Thomas’ face sunk. “But I wanna row.”
“No. We can’t trust our lives in your hands. Now give it to Chelsea.” He demanded. Thomas gave the oar to Chelsea and sat back whining.
Chelsea and Danny began rowing the lifeboat towards the beach. They moved slowly to make sure the moved smoothly. But suddenly the water got unnaturally rough. Suddenly the lifeboat capsized and water pushed it under. The three of them were drowning. This was worst case scenario. They had no one to rescue them and the water was freeze. An uncomfortable death, but lets face it, death was never comfortable. Suddenly the water pulled them swiftly to the shore. Their soaked clothes froze solid making sure the already weakened fruit users couldn’t move. A shadow moved over them back and forth. They couldn’t see. Who or what it was. But suddenly there was a strange squealing sound.
“Che…Chelsea? Is that you? OH MY GOD! IT IS YOU!” The stranger yelped.
Chelsea was free of the ice covering her body and could feel it getting warmer. “That voice…” She said sitting up. She whipped her head around to see a familiar face. “Kayla?”
“Chelsea!” Kayla yelped again hugging her. But Chelsea suddenly bit her. “Ow, why did you bite me?”
“That had to have been all your doing. You nearly killed us.” She glared pulling away.
Kayla stuck her tongue out. “Sorry. I just saw you coming on a lifeboat from a pirate ship. I had no idea it was you. I was just being safe.”
Danny had regained enough strength to use his fire again. He defrosted himself and sat facing her. “Do you know how scary it is to fall into the ocean when you are a fruit user? I nearly pissed myself.” He stated angrily.
“Who are they?” Kayla asked Chelsea.
“To make a long story short, that dumb ass looking at your ass is Thomas. He’s my captain. And this is Danny. He’s the first mate I guess.”
“You joined a pirate crew with a boat that big?” Kayla was impressed. “That ship is huge. But why are they leaving without you?”
“Actually…” Danny’s face turned red. “We don’t have a ship. We had a raft.”
“Oh yeah, I like being frozen here. At least the view is nice.” Thomas said half sarcastically. “Nice ass by the way.”
Kayla kicked him in the face. “I didn’t think you were serious when you said that.” She said blushing.
“He’s just like that.” Chelsea said. “After I cured him of poison he started hitting on me. So I beat him down. Go ahead and hit him as much as you want, he is made of rubber.”
“So you are all fruit users? A whole crew of fruit users with no ship? That’s suicidal.” Kayla was astonished.
“Yeah, Thomas may not be the smartest guy around, but you’ll have a lot of fun with him around.”
Thomas stretched his neck out and began flailing his head around hitting the three of them. “STILL FROZEN IN ICE HERE!”
Danny back handed his face when he got the chance. “Hold on damn it.” He started using his flames to melt the ice and warm Thomas’ body.
Kayla stood up and shook her head. “I’ll let you guys stay with me until you leave… I did destroy the only boat you had after all.”
“Is he cooking?” Chelsea wondered
“He is gone. So you don’t need to worry about his food.” Kayla assured her.
“Oh thank god.” Chelsea sighed in relief.
Danny suddenly was sparked with inspiration. “If you want good food, Thomas can cook. Funny thing is he’s not so useless.”
“Hahaha…” Thomas laughed annoyed. “You don’t want to eat, do you Danny?”
As Kayla showed them to her house, she and Danny walked in front. He explained where they had come from and what they wanted to do. It was pretty calm till Chelsea spoke up. “He’s staring at your ass again.”
Thomas looked at Chelsea angrily. Kayla only turned around giving Thomas the evil eye. “YOU! Walk in front… NOW!!!!!!” She yelled. Thomas just walked in front of them and she focused again listening to Danny’s story. Until Danny pointed out Thomas was stretching his neck too look at her ass. “I gave you a second chance.” She warned.

Later on that night after a great dinner Thomas made them, Thomas sat outside on the balcony staring at the moon. “Thomas?” Kayla called out. “Can I talk to you?” She asked coming through the door in pajamas.
“Uh… sure. What do you want?” He asked sort of mellowed out.
“I want to make a deal with you.”
“I’m listening.”
“You remember what I did on the beach? Well that’s not a devil fruit power. I’m sort of an archaeologist. I’ve discovered a few old tomes and deciphered the languages. I can use magic.  Because of that, the people all view me as a witch.”
“Can you fly on a broom?” Thomas interrupted excitedly.
“No… I’m not actually a witch. But there is a bounty on my head. Here is the deal, if I get you a ship, there is somewhere I want you to take me.”
“Hmmm. How about you get me a ship, I’ll take you anywhere you want, and I get to touch your ass.” Kayla raised her fist. “Ok, ok. If you get me a ship, I want you to join my pirate crew.”
“Never,” Kayla said disgusted. “I hate pirates. After what they did to my family… it’s hard just to think that I let you all into my house.”
“But we are good pirates.” Thomas said with a goofy smile. “You’ve seen how fun we are.”
“Maybe so… but I just…”
“And you can help us give pirates a good name. Besides, I am a pirate, what if after you get me the ship I just kill you?” Kayla’s eye went wide with surprise. “But if you were part of my crew, I would never kill you.”
